I am so incredibly sorry for the extreme lack of posts lately!!
The cold that I wrote about on Friday just really kept me from feeling
and looking my best the past week.  While there is still a touch of cold
hanging on for dear life, I'm feeling much better and am so ready to
be blogging again!  Last night I went out to the Lexington Legends
baseball game for my work "company picnic."  While I'm no
baseball fan, I really enjoyed hanging out with my work
family.  They're the best!

If you're thinking you've seen a lot
of this skirt lately... well, you're right!  This skirt has been
on major repeat and I'm not going to apologize for it.  It's so
comfy and goes with everything!  For me it was a no brainer to
wear it to the baseball game.  It was such a hot day and I simply
just don't do shorts so a cool breezy skirt was definitely the
perfect option for me.

I'm so excited to be featured today on the Southern Blog Society
page! Head over to their blog and check out which of my favorite
 recent looks they featured!

If you follow me in Instagram then you've captured a little
glimpse into my busy last few days.  Lots of traveling and events
have unfortunately kept me from getting you some real outfit photos
for you. I hope this blurry iPhone pic from yesterday will get us
through until my life slows down!  Until then, here's a little
recap of my busy last few days!

Thursday 6.27: Dinner with Chioma from
in a Sequined Life!   I just loved spending time with these
fabulous Lexington girls!  I really think we could've
talked fashion and blogging all night long!

Friday 6.28: My BFF's Birthday!  Ricky turned
28 and once I got off work we headed out to watch
Man of Steel.  While it wasn't my favorite superhero
movie by any means, but it was definitely a great
movie!  I totally recommend checking it out!

Saturday 6.29: Fall Out Boy!  Tyler and I
took Ricky on a little weekend getaway to Indy
for a FOB concert!  They really put on a fantastic
show!  Tyler counted this concert as his 14th time
seeing them (just mine and Ricky's 2nd!) and he
thinks it was the best they've ever sounded!

Sunday 6.30: Travel!  We had a very
leisurely Sunday so after a late breakfast we picked
up a few can'tlivewithout pieces at Loft and H&M
before we hit the road.  Our trip home was not complete
until we made a trip by the J.Crew Factory store in
Edinburgh and *gasp* I didn't buy anything!  I
promise I'm trying really hard to be good!

Monday 7.1: Pageant!  I traveled to
Lincoln County, Kentucky to help/support my
friend Hailey in her pageant and I'm happy to report
that she brought home the crown!  The photo above
is my outfit from the pageant featuring my new Loft
skirt and H&M hat.  Yes, you're going to be seeing
a LOT of that hat. Sorry in advance! ;)

Now to catch up on all the laundry!
Hope you're all having a wonderful week!!

Rehearsal Dinner

Dress: Alfred Sung (c/o Geno's Formal Affair) // Belt: Vintage
Shoes: Audrey Brooke (old, DSW) // Earrings: Forever 21

This past weekend was a whirlwind of perfection.
These photos are from my outfit at Friday night's Rehearsal Dinner.
This dress is actually a bridesmaid dress!  So cute, right?!  This is proof
than you can wear a bridesmaid dress for more than just a wedding!  I
added the vintage belt to give it a little flair and then added the rest of the
accessories to go with the belt.  Easy! Oh, and did you notice my tan?!
I don't get a spray tan very often but I thought my bestie's wedding
was a perfect occasion.  I'm going to make an effort to keep it up
this summer - let's see how it goes!

I hope you all had an amazing weekend as well!
I'll see if I can get a few pictures up from the wedding
soon! Until then, you can see a few I've already posted
on my Instagram - @opalandviolet!

You're looking at the most incredibly comfortable t-shirt of all time.
This camo beauty actually belonged to my husband's late grandfather and
we think it dates back to the 80s.  It was the perfect tee to pair with my favorite leggings and denim jacket for an evening of errands on my day off work.  Oh,
and can we just talk about this awesome Kentucky necklace for a second? If
you follow me on Instagram then you got a peek of it a few weeks ago.
I'm so in love with it and I can't believe how many outfits it goes with!
Such a great way to honor my home state!

Congrats to Brandi B. who was named the winner
I hope you buy yourself some fabulous things!!
Thanks to everyone for entering!!

While putting together this blog post, I made a very exciting discovery!
My favorite watch - the Michael Kors Parker - now comes with a gold face &
navy leather band combo!! Seriously, it's gorgeous!! See for yourself here!
Prepare to fall in love!  I'm adding it to my current wish list immediately!!

So back to today's outfit! ;)
I've been waiting for the perfect time to break out my new Merona
pencil skirt that I picked up at Target just before Christmas.  It features
what is clearly a favorite color combo of mine at the moment - navy & gold.
With the gold flecks in that skirt, there was no stopping me from adding
it to my skirt collection.  Actually, I've been rebuilding my skirt collection
lately.  I love skirts but had a lot of outdated styles/fits so I donated most
of them to Goodwill last year.  I went a while before I even started buying
them again but now I'm trying to make up for lost time!
 The more skirts the better!

I'm linking up with the Followers to Friends Blog Party today!!

I was so excited to finally pick up this Tracy Reese
top at Target on Wednesday!  There weren't tons of pieces of the Neiman Marcus collaboration that I really loved, but this was definitely one.  Call me cheap, but I knew it wouldn't take long for Target to mark the collection down so I just practiced my patience skills and popped in the day it went 70% off!  I mean, $23.99 for a $79 top?!  You just can't beat that!  And I couldn't believe how perfect my Forever 21 blazer went with it!  I'm
sure you all aren't too surprised though; we Kentucky girls always have some
great royal blue pieces in our wardrobe!  Go Cats! ;)

Happy New Year!!!

I'm so excited that it's 2013 I can hardly stand it!  There are so many fun
things to look forward to this year and a lot of them have something to do with my
wardrobe!  Is that wrong?!  Okay good!  I didn't think so either! ;)  So over the next few
days I'll be introducing a few new favorites of mine that you can expect to see more of
this year!  Today we're starting off with my new glasses!! I've worn prescription glasses
and contacts since around 6th grade.  Why have I been blogging for 4 months and you are
just now finding out about my vision probs?  Well, because the glasses I had were the same
terribly unattractive ones I got while a sophomore in college.  Yes, I'd been trying to wear
these glasses for SEVEN years!  Oh my!  They were so ugly and in such bad shape that
I would only wear them around the house - definitely not in public!  So you can imagine
my excitement when Firmoo offered to send me a pair!  I didn't have to search long to
find a fabulously oversized pair that fit my style perfectly!  It arrived promptly and with
a hard case, a soft case, a repair tool, and a cleaning cloth!!  And the quality of the
glasses themselves are much better than I was even expecting!

The next thing on my eyewear list is a pair
of prescription sunglasses.  Thankfully, Firmoo has those, too!  They even have
non-prescription options for both eyeglasses and sunglasses; definitely something for
everyone!  What makes their company even more awesome is their first pair free
program!  Yes, everyone can get their first pair of Firmoo glasses on the house -
you just pay the shipping!  Head over to the Firmoo website and pick out your
next pair of glasses.  Need a suggestion? My other faves are these and these
Let me know yours!

PS - This outfit was inspired by my most recent Friday's Fancies post

*The glasses were provided by Firmoo but all opinions expressed are my own [& always will be].

 Oh how I love NYC!
This past weekend was sort of a blur as a few of my besties
and I made the quickest little weekend trip to the city.  None of them
had been there before so I got to play tour guide with my tiny bit of
experience.  Needless to say, they're all in love with the city
now!  I'm already looking forward to planning my next trip
there - hopefully with my hubby in tow!

Friday's Fancies: Black Friday

Black Friday on Opal & Violet
one // two // three // four // five // six

I hope each of you enjoyed
a wonderful Thanksgiving with your loved ones!!
Isn't it hard to believe that Black Friday is already here?!

For Friday's Fancies this week we're commemorating the kick-off of the
holiday shopping season with some of our favorite looks based around the color black!  Instead of creating an outfit for you today, I opted to find some fabulous black items that are just dying to be in my closet!  I really can't say enough about each of these pieces; I am literally obsessed with each one!!  My husband and I are both working today, so
neither of us will be partaking in any Black Friday shopping.  If, however,
I find that any of these pieces are greatly discounted, I might have
to consider shopping online! ;)

As always, head over to Long Distance Loving to see
all the other Friday's Fancies posts from the other really amazing bloggers!
Have a wonderful weekend!!

I had such a fun time doing a little shopping yesterday with my bestie, Lauren.
Our main mission was to find a dress and accessories for her to wear to a wedding
next weekend.  We were very successful and hopefully she'll let me share a photo or
two of the finished look afterward.  Please excuse my squinty eyes and the lack of
photo quality in these pics - I was running late and forgot both my sunnies and my
camera.  Thankfully, my trusty iPhone never lets me down!

I just can't get enough pearls in my life.
Every time I find myself in the jewelry section of a store, the pearl pieces are almost always my first pick.  Some great pearl studs always make a classy statement and the oversized ones that I wore for my wedding (pictured in today's post) are my go-to earrings.  This collar necklace was such a fun find for me.  It's such an interesting way to add a little flair to a simple and classic look.  How do you like to wear your favorite pearls?
